Menstrual pain, also known as menstrual cramps and dysmenorrhea, is characterized by pain or cramps in the abdomen and pelvic area associated with menstruation. As the name suggests, menstrual pain often coincides with menstruation, but it can also precede menstruation by several days. Menstrual pain can range from mild to severe and feature different kinds of pain including throbbing, nauseating, burning, and shooting pain.
