Chafing is skin irritation cause by repetitive friction of skin rubbing against skin or other surfaces or materials such as clothing. Chafing can occur anywhere on the body, but is most common in the groin, thighs, underarms, and nipples. Chafing is relatively common among long distance athletes such as marathon runners where repetitive friction can occur for an extensive period of time.
